Due to the sharp rise of violence in court settings, (ranging from
minor disturbances to murder), courtrooms all over the country are taking precautions to make the courtroom personnel, as well as
the citizens that attend court proceedings, feel safer by safeguarding against courtroom violence. The Daviess/DeKalb County
Regional Jail currently supplies officers to the DeKalb County Courthouse to man a metal detector upon entering the court house on
all Traffic Law Days, Associate Circuit Law Days, and Circuit Law Days. The officer’s responsibilities include but are not limited
to:
> Providing controlled access into the Courthouse
>Once inside the Courthouse, an officer runs a walk-
through metal detector, while another runs a wand to
target specific areas.
> Checks of all handbags, purses, and items that might
> Security checks of the courtroom before court begins
> Outside
perimeter check of Courthouse
> Inside checks of bathrooms, closets,
and common areas
